This is another knit I wanted to do for a long time. So I am going through my ‘bucket knit list’.
It’s double knit, from neck down, then picked up the sts and double knit the other side.
The image is Meher Baba’s hand writing of the word “I”.
Size: approx. 30 sts, 9.5” wide.

This is my version of these popular hats. It’s a trick double knit, on US 8, fun, easy, and can be worn in different styles, according to ones mood.

‘All of Me’ is a series of knits with symbolize images of my life with Meher Baba:
His Samadi & its Threshold, the ‘Mastery in Servitude’ symbol, and his hand writing for the word ‘I’.
The box was the first thing I did. The idea came from a box I got from Dolly Dastur in India – she called it a ‘Don’t Worry’ box.
Knit wise: double knit in one piece with little assembly.
After adding the scarves of this series on (previous entry), I realized the hats & boxes were not up yet.
There are 2 styles for the hat. The easy one is knit upward, with carried rib to give elasticity:
The other style is more complicated:
The top is knit first, then add sts and knit the other 4 symbols downward.
Both hats can be done in double knit, this one is cotton:
‘All of Me’ is the name I give the projects containing Meher Baba’s symbols. Apart for the box and hats, here are some scarves versions. The images are simplified versions of Meher Baba Samadi, the threshold, Mastery in servitude, and Baba’s hand writing of the word ‘I’.
I just LOVE knitting these patterns.
Knit-wise: knitted in a mixture of double stranded, st.st, and double knit. I use needles # 13US, and let the sts be very loose. The scarves are very big, almost a mini blanket.

A coaster size rendering of Meher Baba’s Tomb image. Designed by my husband 🙂 and happily knitted by me.
Because it’s double knit, it shows the right side (above), while the other side of the coaster shows the left side:
The thing I like about it is that in the old days we used to enter from the right side, while now they changed the entrance to the left.
Based on Meher Baba’s Samadhi, this is a design I wanted to do for a long time. The coaster is done in double knitting, the photo above shows both sides of the first coaster. It shows the threshold, the door, and the piece above it.
The pattern is also somewhat based on my ‘Childlike Samadhi’:

And 2 blue & white, one of them with a garter st for the Samadhi walls, which I am really sorry not to be able to detail:
Based on Meher Baba’s writing of the word ‘I’, from the book ‘In God’s hand’. To my surprise, even though Baba did write “I” a few times, it was never “I am”.
These are the I’s I used:
Sky Blue: Real I (i.e. mind stopped i.e. Self) = Light natural, page 1.
Blue: & when stopped feels I am unlimited. Page 17.
Purple: …feels I am this body only… page 17.
Green: The false I, page 17.
Yellow: The false I, page 17.
Orange: false I i.e. egoism, page 1.
Red: false I (i.e. mind working, egoism) = Darkness unnatural, page 1.
This is a new / continued theme I’m still exploring: I see the knitting as a double knit fabric but sometime do double strand garter st or st.st.
If you want to try it yourself:
a double knit unit = 1 knit facing st + 1 purl facing st.
Change a unit like that to 1 double strand st or 2 st.sts (k on one side p on the next).
There is a lot that comes with it and I’m still learning (it’s fascinating), and I hope to write more about it. For now here are some photos:

Our book is ready! We are happy & excited! The book is a fun bedtime story about a lost Elf that makes friends with a mushroom. It has a lot of photos and knitted art work for illustration.
The other thing it has are 4 knitting patterns, scattered here & there in the middle of the story! The patterns are:
1. Small mushroom chart for double-knit coaster.
2. Double knit mush-puff baby toy (instructions for how to stuff & puff are included).
3. Modular mushroom picture potholder – small project, fun and surprising technique.
